By Car

From Los Angeles on Route 101...

Traveling north on route 101 to San Luis Obispo:

• Go through much of San Luis Obispo and exit at the Grand Avenue/Cal Poly exit (see map).
• Turn left onto Grand Avenue and go (uphill) approximately 1/4 mile to the south entrance of the campus.
• Ahead on your right is the Cal Poly Visitor Information Center.
• Here you can obtain a parking permit, campus map, and a warm greeting!

From San Francisco on Route 101...

Traveling south on route 101 to San Luis Obispo:

• As you approach San Luis Obispo, Exit the Fwy at Monterey Street (the first exit in SLO).
• Make a right turn, then an immediate left turn onto the frontage road (see map; you will be going the same direction you were on the Freeway).
• Go approximately 3 blocks to Grand Ave.
• Turn right (going uphill) and go approximately 1/4 mile to the south entrance of the campus.
• Ahead on your right is the Cal Poly Visitor Information Center.
• Here you can obtain a parking permit, campus map, and a warm greeting!

From Monterey via Scenic Route 1, The Pacific Coast Highway...

(Directions to the Visitor Information Center at the south entrance to the campus - the Grand Avenue entrance.)

Traveling south on highway 1:

• As you approach San Luis Obispo the first stop light on the edge of town is Highland Avenue (see map).
• Turn left at Highland to enter the North-West entrance to the campus.
• Follow Highland Ave as it goes under the train tressel and into the lower parking lot area. Continue straight until you reach a stop sign.
• Turn right and go to the next stop sign.
• At the next stop sign turn left onto North Perimeter Drive and proceed until you reach the third stop sign (you will be going down hill).
• Turn left and proceed to the south entrance of the campus where you will find the Campus Information Center.
• Here you can obtain a parking permit, campus map, and a warm greeting!

From San Luis Obispo Airport...

• When you exit the airport's main entrance, turn left onto Broad Street.
• Follow Broad Street into Downtown San Luis Obispo about 2.8 miles to Marsh Street.
• Turn right on Marsh Street and travel 5 blocks to Santa Rosa Street.
• Turn left on Santa Rosa and go 2 blocks to Monterey Street.
• Turn right on Monterey Street and go 6 blocks to Grand Avenue.
• Turn left onto Grand Avenue and proceed to the south entrance of the campus where you will find the Campus Visitor Information Center.
• Here you can obtain a parking permit, campus map, and a warm greeting!

by Amtrak Train (or Amtrak Bus)

The Amtrak station in San Luis Obispo is located at 1011 Railroad Avenue at Santa Rosa Street. The station is staffed and is served daily by the Coast Starlight train and twice daily by the Pacific Surfliner train. As well, Amtrak buses serve Cal Poly and points beyond San Luis Obispo.

From the San Luis Obispo Amtrak train station...

• By bus (Amtrak's bus stop at Cal Poly)
  • When you exit the train there will be a designated Amtrak California bus waiting to take you to the Cal Poly campus .
  • The bus will take you to the University and stop in front of the Sierra Madre student dorms on Grand Avenue.
  • The Visitor Information Center is located about 200 yards south of the bus stop (the opposite direction of the university)

• By car or taxi
  • Exit the station through the main entrance and go to your right to Santa Rosa street.
  • Continue along Santa Rosa street (north) going approximately 8 blocks until you come to Monterey Street.
  • Turn right on Monterey Street and go 6 blocks to Grand Avenue.
  • Turn left onto Grand Avenue and proceed to the south entrance of the campus where you will find the Visitor Information Center.
  • Here you can obtain a parking permit, campus map, and a warm greeting!
